Ruben Day 212– Bedtime

We’ve had an established bedtime routine for Ruben since he was very young. Granted, it only appears to have paid real dividends in the last month or so (read: sleeping through the night), but we’re pretty sure it’s helped to establish the transition from day to night.

Since I can’t much assist with the second half of the routine (nursing), I’ve handled part one, diaper changing and pajama donning. I’ve accompanied it with song, rotating through a selection of AK’s greatest hits for the first tune, and finishing with something most appropriate for bedtime, MLK by U2. For those unfamiliar, here are the lyrics:

Sleep
Sleep tonight
And may your dreams
Be realized
If the thunder cloud
Passes rain
So let it rain
Rain down on him
So let it be
So let it be

Sleep
Sleep tonight
And may your dreams
Be realized
If the thundercloud
Passes rain
So let it rain
Let it rain
Rain on him

Much to my dismay, rather than growing to love this most beautiful of songs, Ruben has instead learned to associate it– surprisingly enough– with bedtime, and like clockwork bursts into tears soon after I start singing it. I really hope I haven’t ruined the song for him.

In other news, Ruben remains on the cusp of true crawling. He can move in just about every direction except forward, which irritates him to no end. We’re enjoying our final days of not needing to chase him around though.

Anyway, enjoy the bedtime experience.
