Ruben Day 252– Teddy’s winning

Baby Ruben–and family– have had an eventful month:

* Mommy went back to work (and is already ready for summer).
* Grampy and Oma have been doing yeoman’s work with babysitting.
* Karl, Sheri, Siena, Alani, and Jason came to visit (pics and videos to come).
* We’re preparing to move downtown next month, to a fabulous place, built in 1700, on the Hauptstrasse (main street).
* And most importantly, Ruben’s started crawling.

As we were warned, it’s a whole new ballgame. He’s not fast, but fast enough, and certainly curious enough, to go after everything he shouldn’t, his favorite being wires.

We are getting more adventurous with Ruben’s solids. He eats everything from bread to mashed potatoes to palak paneer, and continues to be upset if he’s not included when we eat, even if he’s just had a full meal. I’m convinced there’s some hypothalamic damage.

And finally, I’d like to point out that my alma mater Cal Golden Bears are #2 in the country in college football this week, for the first time in a gazillion years. We Cal alum don’t know what to do with ourselves. Not expecting to see this in my lifetime, I’m not smarting too much at the egg the Seahawks laid last weekend, or the Mets “pulling a Red Sox” last month. Go Bears!

Anyway, the tag refers to Kirstin’s dog from childhood, Teddy. It’s been a running joke, as Ruben reveals new skills, how he has surpassed or is soon to surpass Teddy in intellect. Unfortunately, you’ll note in the video Ruben repeatedly bonks his head against the window, trying to crawl outside.

On the one hand, it’s sort of sad, and I could argue Teddy has taken a commanding lead. However, I’ll note much like the Raptors in Jurassic Park, Ruben never tests the same part of the glass twice. Perhaps he’s systematically testing for weaknesses. Hey– if Cal can reach #2, anything’s possible.

Ruben is so handsome! I wish I could have met the little guy.
